A round of betting begins when each player has 2 starting cards (known as hole cards). The first bet comes from the person to the left of the button. Players can choose to check, call, or raise their bets.

Depending on the rules of your game, you can also draw replacement cards for your hand. This usually occurs during or after a betting round.

There are different types of poker games, but all involve the same basic rules. The dealer shuffles the deck and deals one card at a time to each player until everyone has their starting cards. Each player may then act on their cards in turn, if they wish. Some players like to be very conservative with their opening hands, while others prefer to be more aggressive with theirs.
